The usual suspects are littered all over the top of the odds boards when it comes to Super Bowl futures for next year.
The Chiefs (+550), Packers (+900) and Buccaneers (+900) – three of this year’s four NFL finalists – have the lowest odds to win it all in 2022 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Some of the teams that missed making this year’s postseason that have relatively low 2022 Super Bowl odds considering how they played in this past regular season include the 49ers, Dolphins, Cowboys, Chargers and Cardinals. Their odds range from +1400 to +5000.
The Vikings (+4000), Raiders (+5000), Eagles (+5000) and Bears (+5000) are all middle of the road. And the Bengals, Giants, Jets, Jaguars, Lions and Texans are the biggest longshots – all coming in between +6600 and +10000 at DK.
DraftKings Sportsbook posted its initial 2022 Super Bowl futures just prior to the AFC and NFC Championship games. The odds for those final four teams all changed somewhat following the outcomes.
- The Chiefs were +600 for 2022, now +550
- The Buccaneers were +1300, now +900
- The Packers were +800, now +900
- The Bills were +1100, now +1200
Next year Super Bowl odds
Here is a look at Super Bowl odds for next year from the top US sportsbooks.
Why bet on next year’s Super Bowl now?
Getting a jump on Super Bowl futures can be fruitful. If you anticipate a team having a strong off-season in the free agent market, trade market or NFL Draft – betting months ahead of time can give you an edge.
For instance, let’s say the Miami Dolphins were to pull off a blockbuster trade for disgruntled Houston QB Deshaun Watson. Considering the Dolphins were banging on the door of a playoff berth with a shaky Tua Tagovailoa under center, the addition of Watson would immediately – and considerably – lower their Super Bowl odds.
Getting the Dolphins at +2500 now would give you a decided advantage as those odds would likely drop to around +1500 or even lower if they were to land Watson.
Of course, there is risk in looking into the off-season crystal ball and wagering as well. The Texans could just as well smooth things over with Watson over the next few months and keep him in Houston. And Miami could just as well run it back with Tagovailoa.
Hollywood ending?
The Rams’ acquisition of QB Matthew Stafford immediately vaulted LA into elite status. Sean McVay‘s crew had been +2000 at DraftKings to win it all next year, but is now +1200. LA now owns the same futures odds as the Ravens and Bills.
Detroit, meanwhile, had high Super Bowl odds before they sent Stafford West and took-in Jared Goff. The Lions had been +7500 at DK, but are now +10000.
Gold diggers
There are often massive swings in team records season-to-season in the NFL. For instance, five of the 12 teams that made the playoffs in the 2019-20 season did not make the cut for the 2020-21 NFL Playoffs.
2021 Nfl Future Bets
One of those teams was the San Francisco 49ers, who finished 6-10 one season after going 13-3 and representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.
The Niners are a classic bounce-back year candidate for 2021-22 as they were ravaged by injuries this past regular season. The DraftKings odds of 49ers at +1400 reflect San Francisco’s potential of fixing things quickly. The Niners have the lowest 2021-22 Super Bowl odds of any team that did not make the playoffs this year.
San Francisco will have the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, will have a decent amount of cap space to play with and there have been rumors that they are looking to make an upgrade at QB. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch have at least publicly stated that Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be the starter again in 2021-22. But the 49ers could save around $24 million by releasing or trading him this off-season, and Garoppolo has not exactly lit it up in San Fran even when healthy.
Nfl Future Bets Total Wins
Vikings QB Kirk Cousins has been mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Garoppolo due to his ties with Shanahan. The Niners could also be in the mix to trade for Watson, though Lynch would have to sell the farm in that scenario.
Coach ’em up
Nfl Future Bets Predictions
The Jaguars have the third highest Super Bowl odds at DraftKings Sportsbook despite them bringing in highly regarded head coach Urban Meyer from the college ranks. Jacksonville is also surely going to draft Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. While a leap from worst-to-first is basically impossible in the NFL, it’s likely that the Jaguars will make some baby-step progress this coming season. A bet on them to win the Super Bowl probably isn’t worth it – hence the +8000 odds – but a surprise division title shouldn’t be ruled out entirely.
Opening odds vs. current odds
DraftKings Sportsbook posted their opening odds for 2021-22 just prior to the AFC and NFC title games. There has already been significant movement with some teams. For instance, the Rams and Lions due to the Stafford trade. And the Super Bowl champion Bucs opened at +1300 to win it all in 2022 but are now +900.
